Travellers can now catch
flights from London Gatwick to Dusseldorf in
Germany with regional airline
Flybe.
The carrier introduced the service earlier this week, with a group of local VIPs greeting the aircraft upon its arrival in
Dusseldorf.
Passengers were given specially baked souvenir gingerbread biscuits to mark the inaugural flight on the new route, which saw strong forward ticket sales prior to its launch.
Flybe will offer three daily flights to Dusseldorf during the week, as well as two services on Saturdays and one connection on Sundays.
Mike Rutter, the airline's chief commercial officer, said: "Our new London Gatwick to Dusseldorf service is of great importance to both Flybe leisure and business passengers and we've been delighted with our customers' early support.
"Flybe is gaining a reputation as an airline that bucks the trend in these challenging economic times and the early success of this route is a confident reflection in people seeking out the most affordable travel that also offers a quality service."
Flybe serves 11 destinations from
Gatwick Airport, including
Bergerac,
Aberdeen and
Belfast.
