British Airways, Qantas tap into Ashes fever
Following the start of the 2009 Ashes series yesterday (July 8th), British Airways and Qantas have launched a promotion based on the score of the second Test, which will be played at Lord's from July 16th to 20th.
The number of runs made by Australia in their first innings will determine the price of flights being offered by the airlines, while England's score will dictate the number of seats available.
If the visitors score 230 runs and England reply with a first innings total of 395, for example, British Airways will offer 395 seats on flights to Australia for £230 each.
Simon Brooks, the airline's consumer sales manager, said: "If it's anything like the previous Ashes, we expect to be bowled over with interest from customers.
"The Ashes is a highlight in the sporting calendar and now there's an extra reason to get behind your team."
During the 2005 Ashes series, a similar promotion launched by British Airways saw 367 seats priced at £373 each sell out in 30 minutes.
The airline offers flights to Sydney via Bangkok and Singapore and also serves Melbourne and Perth through a codeshare deal with Qantas.
