Flybe and
Leeds-Bradford Airport are currently running a campaign to promote
business travel around the
UK.
The airport is lobbying the transport minister for a reduction in transport taxes for commuters, something that is hoped to stimulate growth in the Yorkshire and Humber economy.
Flybe recently launched flights linking Leeds Bradford to
Gatwick Airport, offering the only scheduled connection between Yorkshire and
London.
The airline claimed that a comparison between the costs of air and rail travel shows that passengers can save almost 40 per cent if they fly between Leeds and London.
Mike Rutter, chief commercial officer of Flybe, said: "We realise that a thriving regional economy needs good air links to London and our aim is to make the price as competitive as possible, offering maximum benefit to the local business community."
Leeds Bradford Airport commercial director Tony Hallwood added: "Our 'Get Business Moving' campaign aims to assist companies in the region who commute regularly to London by offering cost effective and speedy access to the capital."
The airport also hosts flights to a number of popular leisure destinations, including
Salzburg,
Tenerife,
Prague and
Sharm el Sheikh.
