Singapore Airlines has announced that it will extend its
Airbus A380 network this year with the launch of flights to
Melbourne from
Singapore.
People travelling to
Australia will be able to connect to the daily A380 flights from September 29th.
Melbourne will be the sixth destination in Singapore Airlines' A380 network, joining
Sydney,
Tokyo,
Paris,
London and
Hong Kong.
The carrier serves five Australian cities in total, including
Adelaide,
Brisbane and
Perth.
Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines' vice-president of marketing, said: "We are excited to fly the A380 to Melbourne, the second most populous city in Australia and a vibrant centre for commerce, arts, industry, sports and tourism.
"As the greenest wide-body aircraft in the sky, the 471-seat A380 will increase the seat capacity to Melbourne by ten per cent, without the need for additional frequencies."
Singapore Airlines is not the only carrier that is extending its A380 network this year, with
Emirates recently launching the aircraft on new flights to
Bangkok and
Toronto from
Dubai.
