The city of
Las Vegas will boost its potential to handle high visitor numbers later this year when it opens a major new property.
CityCenter, which is due to open in December, will be the largest private development in
US history.
Spread across 67 acres of the
Las Vegas Strip between the Bellagio and Monte Carlo casinos, the new property will boost the city's existing inventory of 140,000 rooms by 6,000.
The centrepiece of CityCenter will be Aria, a 61-storey gaming property with 4,000 rooms that will host the seventh Cirque du Soleil production in Las Vegas, a show celebrating the life and music of Elvis Presley.
Visitors will also be able to stay in the Mandarin Oriental when CityCenter opens later this year, while the luxury Harmon Hotel is due to begin welcoming guests in 2010.
Travellers can catch flights to Las Vegas with
Virgin Atlantic,
KLM,
American Airlines and other carriers.
