Leeds-Bradford Airport gets development approval
Leeds-Bradford International Airport (LBIA) has received approval for a £28 million plan to redevelop its terminal and provide new passenger facilities.
The airport said that the scheme, which is backed by its private equity owners Bridgepoint, will provide 'best in class' amenities and boost its status as the main gateway to Yorkshire.
One of the central aspects of the project is a two-storey extension that will provide new check-in and security facilities, a departure lounge and a retail area.
The airport's passenger security screening zone will also be extended and the domestic baggage reclaim hall will be redesigned.
John Parkin, chief executive of Leeds-Bradford Airport, said: "We welcome the decision from the planning committee, which marks an important milestone in the development of a progressive national and international gateway for the region.
"We are now able to enhance the original vision of the consortium of local councils who previously owned the airport to develop LBIA."
Travellers can catch flights to Brussels, Amsterdam, Toulouse and many other international destinations from Leeds-Bradford Airport.
