Venice Film Festival set to go 3D

Venice Film Festival set to go 3D

Venice is gearing up to host its annual Film Festival, with 3D technology set to be the talking point of this year's event.

Now in its 66th year, the prestigious event is likely to again attract some of the biggest stars in the world, as well as some of the hottest up-and-coming film makers to the popular Italian city between September 2nd and 12th.

However, members of the public can also enjoy the festival, with organisers having announced that tickets are to be made available for most events, while a newly-introduced hall in the Ca Giustinian will give fans the opportunity to meet and mingle with celebrities.

As well as being the oldest film festival in the world, 'La Biennale di Venezia' is also credited with highlighting the direction cinema is taking, with this year set to be no exception.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a new prize for the "most creative feature film among those in stereoscopic 3D" is to be introduced, with Fox, Disney and Fixar set to showcase their latest works in this field.

Acclaimed director Ang Lee will be president of the jury for this year's Golden Lion awards at the festival, with the top prize having gone to The Wrestler.
