Etihad Airways has announced plans to launch
flights to Cape Town, which will be its second destination in
South Africa.
The new service is set to get underway on September 30th and will operate from
Abu Dhabi via
Johannesburg, which the airline currently serves on a daily basis.
British travellers will be able to connect to the service by catching flights from
London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi.
James Hogan, chief executive of Etihad, said: "Etihad Airways is committed to expanding its flight network across the world and we are delighted to add flights to Cape Town to our schedule from September.
"In the coming 12 months demand for flights to South Africa will grow immensely, especially with the 2010 Fifa World Cup next summer."
Cape Town will be the airline's fifth destination in
Africa, joining Johannesburg,
Khartoum,
Casablanca and
Cairo.
Etihad has added a number of destinations to its international network this year, including
Chicago,
Melbourne and
Larnaca.
