New Spanish football season to begin this month
Sports fans will have even more motivation to take city breaks in Spain from the end of this month when the country's La Liga football season begins.
One of the most popular destinations for followers of Spanish football will be Barcelona, where all eyes will be on the reigning champions to see if they can retain their title this season.
Barca will get their campaign underway with a match against Sporting Gijon on August 31st before travelling to Madrid to play Getafe on September 13th.
The champions will then host Atletico Madrid on September 20th in one of the biggest fixtures of the opening weeks of the new La Liga campaign.
One of the strongest challengers to Barcelona's crown this season will be Real Madrid, who will play Deportivo La Coruna at home and Espanyol away in their first two matches of the season.
Football fans will also be visiting Valencia at the end of the month to see the local La Liga side play Sevilla on the opening weekend.
August is set to be a big month for sport in Spain, with the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe being held in Valencia on August 23rd.
