Europe 'cheaper than UK for accommodation'
Hotels in Europe are considerably cheaper than accommodation options available in the UK this summer, new figures have revealed.
According to hotel price comparison site trivago, UK accommodation costs are 13 per cent above the European average.
Hotel prices across the continent are favourable for travellers this month, the figures suggest, having fallen by three per cent compared to August 2008.
Paris and Madrid are currently offering their lowest prices this year - £102 and £66 per night respectively - while in Rome a night in a hotel costs an average of £91, according to trivago.
Those looking for an affordable European break this summer were advised to pay a visit to Poland (£60), Bulgaria (£68) or Hungary (£69).
In England, Greater London was found to be the most expensive area for accommodation at an average of £124 a night, while the West Midlands was the cheapest at £71.
Trivago released a survey earlier this year which showed that 41 per cent of British people miss their own bed when they are on holiday.
