Air New Zealand to launch Sydney to Rotorua flights
Air New Zealand will launch new flights to Rotorua on New Zealand's North Island from Sydney, Australia this year.
The new service could prove useful for people travelling in Australasia, providing a twice-weekly connection operated by a 152-seat Airbus A320.
From 19 December, flights to Rotorua will depart on Saturdays and Mondays until the end of January, at which time the service will operate on Saturdays and Tuesdays.
Rotorua, which is located in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand, can be considered one of the country's "iconic tourism destinations", according to Glen Sowry, Air New Zealand's general manager in the Tasman Pacific region.
He added: "We see the potential for good passenger numbers from Australia and the continued strength of inbound tourism from there has lent weight to our decision.
"The new services will also make Rotorua significantly more accessible for visitors from Asia who often visit both Australia and New Zealand and whom we can now bring directly from Sydney to Rotorua instead of via Auckland."
Air New Zealand's regional network in Australasia also includes flights to Wellington, Christchurch and Rarotonga.
