Poor weather forecasts 'sending Brits overseas'
Forecasts for a damp August have reportedly led to an increase in demand for foreign holidays among British travellers.
According to airport operator BAA, there has been a surge in late bookings as a result of the Met Office changing its outlook for the British summer, having originally predicted that it would be warm and sunny.
Travel agents have reportedly seen an increase in business of up to 40 per cent compared to the same time last year as Brits look to take advantage of warm weather overseas.
Stansted Airport has reported that eurozone destinations such as Cyprus, Greece and Spain are proving as popular as ever among travellers, as well as countries with their own currencies like Turkey, Morocco and Australia.
Mark Souter, the airport's head of airline relations, said: "Stansted is a perfect choice if you're looking for a late break, whether a weekend or a longer holiday.
"We have airlines flying to 150 destinations this summer."
Nearly 300,000 passengers used Stansted Airport between July 17th and 20th, making it one of the busiest periods of the year so far for the London gateway.
