Heathrow Airport sees third-busiest month on record
Heathrow Airport experienced its third-busiest month on record and its busiest July since 2006 last month, new figures from BAA have shown.
Passenger numbers at the London hub increased by 0.9 per cent year-on-year to reach 6.5 million in July.
Heathrow Airport was not the only base to report rising traffic, with passenger numbers at Edinburgh Airport increasing by 5.6 per cent, representing the fourth consecutive month of growth at the Scottish gateway.
Overall, BAA revealed that traffic at its UK airports is beginning to stabilise.
Following year-on-year decreases of 7.3 per cent and 5.9 per cent in May and June respectively, traffic figures fell by 2.4 per cent in July this year to 14.5 million at all seven BAA bases.
Across the group, traffic on scheduled flights to Europe increased by 1.2 per cent and long-haul activity, excluding the north Atlantic market, rose by 4.8 per cent.
BAA recently announced plans to invest £1 billion in the second terminal at London Heathrow to house Star Alliance carriers such as bmi, Singapore Airlines and US Airways.
