Vancouver Airport rail link to open early
A new rail link connecting Vancouver Airport (YVR) to the centre of the city is set to open on August 17th, well ahead of its planned launch date in November.
The early opening of the Canada Line will allow the city to ensure that it is running smoothly before the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, which will get underway in Vancouver on February 12th next year.
People catching flights to Vancouver can get from the airport to downtown in 26 minutes on the new rail link, which stops at three locations in the city centre.
The destination has been in need of a transport connection like the Canada Line "for a long time", according to Kate MacLennan, a spokeswoman for Tourism British Columbia (BC).
"We've now got a fast, efficient and economic way for visitors to Vancouver to transfer from YVR into the heart of the city and get around downtown from there," she added.
"It's an absolutely fabulous addition to BC's biggest city and will be a real asset in transporting visitors during the Olympic Games."
People interested in visiting Canada for the Winter Games can catch flights to Vancouver with carriers including Air Canada, United Airlines and Vancouver.
