Aer Lingus recently carried its one millionth passenger on its services from
Belfast International Airport.
Rachel Millar from Newtownards, who caught a flight to
Munich, was rewarded with a 'golden ticket' entitling her to a year's free travel to any destination on the airline's network from
Belfast.
Enda Corneille, corporate affairs director for Aer Lingus, revealed that 1.3 million bookings have been taken since the airline began operating from Belfast International Airport in December 2007.
More than 500,000 tickets have been sold on the
Belfast International to Heathrow route alone, on which Aer Lingus competes with
bmi.
"With less than a third of the capacity on the route we have more than a third of the market, and with growing demand for our low fares and high service we will very soon put a fourth flight on the Heathrow schedule out of Belfast International," said Mr Corneille.
The airline's network from Belfast enables people travelling from Northern Ireland to catch flights to
Barcelona,
Paris,
Tenerife and other destinations.
