Jet2 plans expansion at Newcastle Airport
Jet2 has revealed plans for expansion at Newcastle Airport in 2010, with new aircraft to be based in the north-east and extra flights being launched to popular destinations.
The airline announced that it will be opening new routes to five holiday locations for summer next year - Dalaman, Crete, Gran Canaria, Paphos and Sharm el Sheikh.
Holidaymakers will be able to travel on the new flights from May 2010.
In total, Jet2 will be offering an extra 100,000 seats during the summer season and bringing 450 new jobs to the north-east.
Airline boss Philip Meeson said: "We believe we are developing a real understanding of what the people of the north-east want from their holidays - fantastic leisure destinations, low fares and a friendly service.
"This is proving to be a winning formula and with the five new routes we have just announced, we will continue to give our passengers the destinations they want."
Jet 2 also announced this month that it would be expanding at Manchester Airport next summer with the launch of new flights to Kos, Venice and Gran Canaria.
