British carriers took the top spots in all three sections of the airline category in the 2009 Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Awards.
Bmi was voted the leading short-haul leisure airline with an overall score of 87.37, followed by
Swiss,
British Airways and
KLM.
In the
long-haul leisure section,
Virgin Atlantic's rating of 90 from Conde Nast Traveller readers guaranteed it top spot, with
Air New Zealand and
Qantas second and third respectively.
British Airways led the
business airline category ahead of
Etihad Airways and
Emirates, while
easyJet was voted this year's top low-cost airline, followed by
Flybe and
bmibaby.
The 2009 Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Awards also gathered views on the best international holiday cities, with
New York,
Paris,
Rome,
Sydney and
Barcelona making up the top five.
Italy received a score of 95.55 out of 100 in the countries section of this year's vote, taking top spot in the category ahead of
New Zealand and
Turkey, while Sicily, the
Maldives and
Barbados were the highest-ranked islands.
