Bmibaby to expand at East Midlands Airport
Bmibaby has confirmed that it will be pursuing a "massive expansion plan" from East Midlands Airport over the coming year, with a number of new flights being launched from the base.
The low-cost carrier will bring eight new European routes to the airport, with flights to Venice, Cork, Barcelona, Malta, Dubrovnik, Newquay, Alghero and Bastia all being launched over the next year.
People based in the East Midlands will also be offered additional services to a number of popular winter and summer destinations, including Geneva, Prague and Malaga.
Three new bmibaby aircraft will be based at the airport, helping bmibaby to carry an estimated 350,000 additional passengers in 2010.
Crawford Rix, managing director of the airline, said: "Our rapid expansion programme at East Midlands Airport is fantastic news for the Midlands.
"It not only further demonstrates our commitment to the airport, but also to the people of the region, as we continue to offer low fares to a range of exciting new European destinations."
Bmibaby's expansion will bring the total number of European destinations it serves from East Midlands Airport to 24.
