Oman 'a future tourism hotspot'
Oman is destined to be one of the tourism hotspots of the future, according to the country's national airline.
Oman Air said that the country's "natural beauty and glorious history" combined with increasing investment in tourism will ensure that visitor numbers continue to increase in the future.
In the first six months of the year, some 1.1 million tourists visited the nation in the Middle East, an increase on the 980,000 people who travelled there in the first half of 2008.
According to Oman Air, the country's government has realised that "shrewd investment in tourism and real estate" will create an "enduring legacy".
Usama bin Karim Al Haremi, a spokesman for the airline's corporate communications division, said: "Oman wants to target mainly high-quality tourism to preserve its culture and reputation as a quality destination.
"Likewise, real estate is on the verge of exploding, as carefully planned new developments make the sultanate growingly desirable to foreign visitors and investors alike."
Travellers can catch flights from London Heathrow to Muscat with Oman Air.
The carrier is expanding its network in Europe this year with flights to Oman from Frankfurt, Munich and Paris.
