New York prepares for Thanksgiving parade
Travellers taking city breaks in New York next month will experience a buzz of excitement around the city as it prepares for one of its best-loved annual traditions.
The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place in the centre of Manhattan on November 26th.
Founded in 1924 by Macy's employees as a Christmas celebration, the event will be marking its 83rd edition in 2009.
The parade was an instant success 85 years ago and Macy's immediately announced that it would be held annually.
In a change to the celebrations this year, the procession will march along 7th Avenue rather than Broadway.
The route will begin on 77th Street and Central Park West, passing locations including 6th Avenue and Herald Square before finally coming to an end at 34th Street and 7th Avenue.
People who visit New York for the parade will be able to see giant balloons representing well-known characters, festive floats, marching bands, performance groups and other impressive spectacles.
