Skiers offered money-saving advice

Skiers offered money-saving advice

Foreign exchange company Caxton FX has offered some advice on how winter sports enthusiasts can save money during their skiing holidays.

One tip offered by the company is to be prepared to visit a lesser-known ski resort, as major destinations such as Val d'Isere in France, St Anton in Austria and Verbier in Switzerland can be extremely expensive.

Countries such as Slovakia and Bulgaria were recommended as cheaper alternatives to the high-profile winter sports hotspots.

Another way to save money, according to Caxton FX, is to avoid peak travel periods such as Christmas, Easter and the February half-term, with the weeks beginning December 13th, January 20th and February 7th expected to be more affordable.

One of the biggest expenses on a skiing holiday can be the slope passes and equipment, a cost that can be reduced by searching online for special offers in advance.

The foreign exchange firm also recommended choosing self-catering accommodation to avoid the often high costs of eating out in ski resorts.
