Amsterdam museum celebrates first 100 days
A new museum in Amsterdam recently celebrated the success that it has enjoyed during its first 100 days.
The Hermitage Amsterdam has welcomed just over 360,000 visitors since its first weekend, when it stayed open for 31 straight hours.
Nearly 80 per cent of people who have visited the attraction came to the Netherlands' capital city specifically to see the museum, with approximately one in six travelling from abroad.
People planning to visit the Hermitage over the coming months will be able to see the exhibition At the Russian Court, which will be open until January 31st 2010.
The display features some 1,800 exhibits on loan from the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia, offering a fascinating insight into life in the country in the 19th century.
Travellers with an interest in art can head to Amsterdam from March 6th 2010 to see the exhibition Pioneers of Modern Art, which will showcase work by figures such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.
Several airlines operate flights to Amsterdam, including easyJet, bmibaby and KLM.
