British market 'all-important' for Mexico

Britain has been described as an "all-important" tourism source market for Mexico.

Manuel Diaz Cebrian, UK and Europe director of the Mexico Tourism Board, said that there has been continued growth in the number of British people visiting the country in recent years.

A campaign has been launched to promote the destination in the UK, which highlights everything from Mexican film and art to local cuisine.

Mr Diaz Cebrian pointed out that, while Mexico is often regarded as a "year-round sunshine and beach destination", travellers are beginning to appreciate the other experiences it has to offer.

"We have seen a noticeable shift towards tourists looking for a more cultured holiday destination and as such we are seeing the perception of Mexico changing," he said.

The spokesman went on to highlight the country's "culture and varied landscape - from jungles and forests to volcanoes and Aztec ruins".

People interested in visiting Mexico can catch flights to Cancun, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta and several other destinations.
