Singapore Airlines wins two Guardian awards
Singapore Airlines took top prize in both the long-haul and business carrier categories of the 2009 Guardian and Observer Travel Awards.
The operator beat Air New Zealand and Jet Airways to the top spot in the long-haul section, while Emirates and Virgin Atlantic were in second and third places respectively for the business accolade.
Guardian and Observer readers voted Swiss their favourite short-haul airline ahead of Lufthansa and KLM.
New Zealand took top place for the second consecutive year in the category covering Britons' favourite long-haul countries, while Switzerland was named the top European nation ahead of Norway and Austria.
Sydney won the award for the most popular overseas city, while Cape Town jumped five places to second and New York came in third.
Travellers showed their interest in adventurous excursions by voting Iguazu Falls on the border between Argentina and Brazil their favourite overseas attraction, with the Angkor temple complex in Cambodia and Machu Picchu in Peru the runners up in this section.
London dominated the voting for the top attractions in the UK, with the British Museum, London Eye and Tate Modern taking the top three places.
