Dubai Airport records major passenger increase

Dubai Airport has released figures showing that it recorded its largest monthly traffic increase since October 2007 in September.

The hub handled nearly 3.2 million travellers during the month, which represented an increase of 19.5 per cent on September 2008.

In the first nine months of the year, throughput at Dubai Airport exceeded 30 million passengers, meaning the base is on target to reach its projected total of 40 million for 2009.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, said tourists are finding the destination "hard to resist", even during times of economic difficulty.

"They are flocking to Dubai in increasing numbers to enjoy the warm weather, visit the many exciting attractions, all the while taking advantage of extremely competitive airfares and hotel rates," he added.

"Those numbers should continue to swell in the months ahead, particularly when the Dubai Airshow opens up on November 15th."

Several airlines operate flights to Dubai, including Emirates, British Airways and KLM.
