Foreign festivals 'good idea in winter'
Britons looking to go on holiday this winter should consider festivals in different parts of the world.
That is according to James Bainbridge, a travel writer who has authored a new title in the Lonely Planet guidebook series.
Mr Bainbridge said that cold weather in the UK made "colourful gatherings" in other parts of the world even more enjoyable.
He suggested that Christmas markets in Europe are good places to visit, particularly those in Bavaria, Germany.
"Just because we are going into the cold winter months in Britain it doesn't mean that the rest of the world shuts down there are lots of things taking place in other hemispheres," Mr Bainbridge added.
He went on to point out that, in Australia, the music festival season is just beginning.
"They have all their big rock music festivals like Big Day Out which all take place in the months around Christmas," he said.
A poll conducted by the organisers of the Lovebox Weekender festival earlier this year found that Brits spend around £600 on each festival weekend they attend.
