BA to launch flights to Punta Cana this winter
New flights to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Montego Bay in Jamaica will be launched by British Airways (BA) as part of its winter schedule.
The new routes will be operated from Gatwick Airport, with the airport set to commence 11 flights to the Caribbean each week.
A further three will operate from Heathrow Airport.
London Gatwick Airport commercial director Mike Luddy said he was "delighted" that British Airways will be launching the "prestigious routes from the UK's second-busiest airport.
"BA is a hugely important customer for us and we hope that the addition of the new routes will further strengthen their network and performance from the airport," he commented.
In addition, BA intends to launch additional flights to St Kitts, Grenada, Barbados and Bermuda next summer, meaning that the airline will have an extra 2,000 seats a week to Caribbean destinations from Gatwick.
Last year, BA carried 37.5 million passengers. It is the world's largest operator of Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
