India 'continues to represent value for money'
The perception of India as representing value for money is spread through word of mouth, a travel expert has said.
According to Lonely Planet, some people believe the country is more expensive than anticipated but bargains can be found in midrange prices and beyond.
Brits can eat in top-quality restaurants which feel cheap when compared with home while staying in hotels which used to be palaces, the publisher explained.
Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, said: "I'm not sure people are drawn to India for its 'value for money' perception, but I think it is certainly something that counts in its favour through word of mouth once people get back.
"Another thing with India and value for money is that you can get a meal on the street which is freshly cooked and delicious local food for the equivalent of 30p to 40p."
Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2010 list saw India as the top tip for value for next year.
