Christmas shopping in New York is a "dream"
Hopping on a flight to New York to do some pre-Christmas shopping is most people's idea of a "dream" break at this time of year, according to an expert.
Tom Hall, travel editor of Lonely Planet, said that although other cities may provide some alternative kinds of retail experience, the Big Apple is still number one for the majority of consumers.
One of the best things about New York is the diversity of its shopping opportunities - everything from famous department store chains to small designer pop-up shops and tiny vintage outlets is there.
What's more, new retailers are opening all the time. According to NYCGo, the pick of the bunch this month is Vince on SoHo's fashionable Prince Street and Dunlin in the super-trendy Brooklyn hotspot Williamsburg.
Of course, between shopping expeditions to different parts of the five boroughs, make sure not to miss out on Central Park during the festive season.
Two ice rinks give families the opportunity for some fun, while walking tours and horse-drawn carriage rides are available for those who want to see the sights.
