Etihad named world's leading airline

Etihad Airways was among the winners at the grand final of this year's World Travel Awards, which took place at Grosvenor House in London yesterday (November 8th).

The Abu Dhabi-based carrier was named the world's leading airline and also picked up the top prize in the category covering first class services.

Qatar Airways was voted the world's best business class carrier this year and easyJet was recognised as the leading budget operator, while Virgin Atlantic received an award for its transatlantic flights.

The accolade for the world's leading destination went to London, with Doha voted the best emerging business location and the Burj Al Arab in Dubai named the world's leading hotel.

President and founder of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, said: "Today's winners have not only been recognised as the best in their region, but they have proved themselves to be the best in the world and the number one choice of travel professionals and consumers alike.

"They have remained focused on their long-term objectives and continued to deliver above and beyond the call of duty, setting an industry example."
