VisitScotland launched its new Winter White tourism campaign in
Edinburgh this week.
To mark the beginning of its £1.3 million initiative to encourage more people to visit Scotland during the winter months, the tourism agency unveiled an icy glass tiara at
Edinburgh Castle.
Created by Edinburgh College of Art student Julia Malle, the item was reportedly inspired by "winter itself" and the country's rugged natural scenery.
VisitScotland's 2008 Winter White campaign was the most successful yet, generating a record £63.5 million for the country's economy.
This year's promotions will feature wildlife and outdoor activities as central themes, with potential visitors being encouraged to explore the country and enjoy the experiences on offer.
Scottish tourism minister Jim Mather said: "Winter festivals, stunning seasonal scenery and homegrown Scottish traditions are all part of the innovative ways of attracting new visitors to our great country, ensuring that Scotland continues to be one of the must-visit destinations in the world.
"Tourism in Scotland can no longer be considered seasonal as the Winter White campaign is a major contributor to the Scottish tourism industry."
