Wildlife tourism 'thriving in Scotland'

Wildlife tourism in Scotland has experienced a strong year so far, according to an industry association.

Wild Scotland revealed that feedback from its members indicates that 2009 has been "an excellent year" for wildlife tourism.

Nearly two thirds (61 per cent) of members said this year has been better than 2008 and 59 per cent expressed the belief that the trend of the 'staycation' had benefited the sector.

A significant number of respondents also indicated that there has been an increase in European visitors this year, which may be due to the strength of the euro against the pound.

Caroline Warburton of Wild Scotland said: "Wildlife tourism in Scotland has had another great season which is excellent news for everyone.

"Businesses have worked hard this year but their work has paid off and the results of the survey hopefully show that wildlife tourism in Scotland is here to stay."

Travellers interested in visiting Scotland can catch flights to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Dundee and other cities, which are available with carriers such as Flybe, Eastern Airways and easyJet.
