New Gatwick operators 'will improve customer service'

Customers travelling through Gatwick Airport next year can expect excellent customer service, after its new owners said this is what they will be focussing on.

Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), which agreed a deal with BAA earlier this year, said that the new hub will provide real competition to the sector and so improve customer care.

Sir David Rowlands, chairman of the new owner, said: "The new board will work with Gatwick's management team to drive Gatwick to a competitive future in its target market through more efficient operations and a relentless focus on customer service."

The company, which is due to take over in the next couple of weeks, has added that there is "tremendous opportunity" to change the industry.

Previously, the company has promised to improve the passenger experience by doing up the ageing facilities at the airport.

It has said that £90 million will be spent on improving the buildings, which GIP said will bring in new airlines and passengers.
