Christmas shoppers 'can find bargains in New York'
Travellers setting off on Christmas shopping breaks in New York this year will find plenty of bargains if they look in the right places, new research suggests.
Post Office Travel Services found that shoppers buying gifts in the Big Apple can save up to 25 per cent compared to prices in London as a result of promotions being launched in the US city and the pound regaining some of its value against the dollar.
The biggest saving found during the company's search was on an Abercrombie & Fitch shirt that was available for the equivalent of £23 in Manhattan, compared to £70 in the English capital.
Designer brands such as Diane von Furstenberg, Tiffany and Calvin Klein are also offering big savings for UK shoppers this Christmas, the study revealed.
People looking for the most popular children's toys will also have a good chance of finding them cheaper in New York, according to the Post Office research.
Head of travel services Sarah Munro said: "There are great bargains to be found, providing shoppers do their homework.
"Many fashion items and beauty products are significantly cheaper in New York than in London but this is not always the case and it will pay to check prices for top designer labels before travelling."
