Holidaymakers 'busting their budgets'
Almost a quarter of people who set a holiday budget are breaking it, with some people spending more than £500 than they planned, new research has found.
The survey from currency service Travelex found that 21 per cent spend an extra £150 to £200 on top of their budget, while 13 per cent spend between £201 and £250 more.
Younger people are more likely to overspend, with a third of those between the ages of 18 and 24 exceeding their travel budget.
Older travellers were more savvy with their money, being most likely to return home with unspent money.
Ana Ansell, head of marketing for card and mobile payments at Travelex, said: "Summer holidays are all about fun and relaxing, so it is important that people do not spend precious time worrying about money."
Last month, the company found that more people were travelling long haul as the pound declined in value against the euro.
