Giant sprig of mistletoe installed at Heathrow Terminal 5
Travellers catching flights from Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 this Christmas will see an unusual sight in the building - a giant sprig of mistletoe.
Measuring ten feet by eight feet and weighing 43kg, the structure is thought to be the largest sprig of mistletoe in the world.
Designers and engineers spent three weeks constructing the object, which contains more than 50 feet of steel tubing and 25 stainless steel balls.
It is hoped that more than two million kisses will be exchanged under the mistletoe during the Christmas season.
Similar installations will be carried out at the London hub's other terminals so that all passengers can join in with the festive fun.
Mike Brown, chief operating officer at Heathrow Airport, said: "Heathrow is very often the place where friends and lovers are reunited at Christmas, or where people start their long journeys home to loved ones.
"We hope our giant mistletoe brings some added Christmas cheer and excitement to journeys taken over the festive period."
Almost three million passengers are set to fly into Heathrow in the lead-up to Christmas, with nearly half a million expected between December 19th and 24th alone.
