British holidaymakers still make up the biggest tourism market for
Tenerife despite fewer people visiting the island this summer, an expert has claimed.
Arantxa Martin, a spokesperson for the Tenerife Tourism Corporation, said that this year has been a bit lower in numbers but she still expects a good winter season.
It follows recent research from the
Canary Islands Tourist Board which found that Tenerife is the most popular island of the group, with more than 40 per cent of UK travellers found to be regular visitors to the island.
Ms Martin added that there is something on Tenerife to please everyone, adding: "We have many facilities for families like theme parks and lots of hotels have family activities. For the older audience, we have trekking, diving and stargazing which you can do in the National Park of del Teide."
The expert also said that the island has more five-star hotels than
Barcelona and it has some "excellent" cultural events on the horizon.
