Increasing numbers of Brits booking flights to
Milan appear to be heading to the city of Brescia.
This is the suggestion of Andrea Arcai, a Brescia city councillor, who said that UK holidaymakers make up the city's third-largest tourism market.
"British tourists are very important for our development; we only have to remember Churchill who came to Brescia, DH Lawrence and many others."
Mr Arcai went on to say that visitors to Brescia often ventured to nearby Lake Garda or Lake Iseo, while pointing out the city's economic importance.
He also explained that Brescia is famed for its "decorated" churches and its palaces, which contain "masterpieces that remain with us 'til this day".
From December 4th until June 27th, the Santa Giulia museum is putting on Inxa in Brescia. Live the Legend, an exhibition featuring a number of Peruvian relics.
Brescia is located in Italy's Lombardy region between
Milan and
Verona. Its other highlights include a Roman theatre, Duomo Nuovo church and Piazza della Vittoria.
