New York set for major outdoors art project
Culture-lovers taking flights to New York in the spring are to be treated to a major outdoor art project, it has been announced.
Following on from a similar project in London, it has been revealed that UK artist Anthony Gormley is to bring his 'Event Horizon' exhibition to the heart of the Big Apple in March.
The project will see Madison Square Park, which is located between the famous Madison and Fifth Avenues in downtown Manhattan, as well as the surrounding streets taken over by 31 statues of men.
Though the exact details of where the statues will be placed is being kept under wraps, the New York Times has revealed that, just as in London, some will be on the roofs of the city's iconic skyscrapers, while some may even be positioned on the pavement.
Speaking to the paper, Gormley said: "This project has to do with questioning both the status of art and the nature of the built environment. It's about where the human body fits into the scheme of things."
Aside from outdoor works, art-lovers booking flights to New York all year round are able to enjoy some of the world's finest museums and galleries, including the American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.
