Commitment to reduce noise made by Glasgow Airport
Glasgow Airport has made a commitment to reduce its noise levels in line with the major London airports.
A noise insulation scheme for properties in close proximity will be set by the Civil Aviation Authority, with a similar set-up expected to get underway at Edinburgh Airport.
Measures have already been implemented at Gatwick Airport and Stansted Airport, with the latest scheme a result of pressure from local MPs and MSPs.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, noise pollution levels have shrunk considerably in recent years, and are now half of what they were in 1990.
"In practice, this means that fewer households are troubled by aircraft noise, even though the airport has grown significantly over the years," a Glasgow Airport statement said.
"Glasgow bosses believe it is right to take further action - even in the grip of the worst aviation downturn for more than a decade."
Last summer, the airport revealed that thousands of English holidaymakers had taken advantage of the airport's routes by making the journey north of the border.
