Abta offers advice for winter travellers
Abta - The Travel Association has offered some advice for people planning an overseas getaway during the winter months.
The organisation pointed out that the main reason people go away during the winter is to enjoy warm weather, meaning that destinations such as the Canary Islands and north Africa are likely to be popular.
However, Sean Tipton, a spokesman for Abta, also highlighted the fact that winter is a popular time of year to visit exotic destinations such as Goa in India and Gambia.
"They are destinations where you might well need to get vaccinations and quite often people don't think about this, particularly if they are booking a family package holiday," he said.
"It is something to bear in mind, that if you are travelling outside of western Europe, North America and Australasia you do need to contact a health professional to see what vaccinations would be sensible to take."
Mr Tipton also pointed out that Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year to travel, making it important to leave extra time to get to the airport and use time-saving measures such as online check-in.
