Brits uncomfortable tipping while abroad
Nearly half of UK holidaymakers are reluctant to tip while holidaying overseas, it has emerged.
A poll undertaken by HolidayExtras.com revealed that just 51 per cent of tourists are happy to tip after receiving high levels of service.
This reluctance is more pronounced among men, with 58 per cent admitting to feeling uncomfortable about parting with cash they don't have to spend, compared to 39 per cent of women.
HolidayExtras.com finance expert Mike Whiting said that tipping can make British people "feel awkward", especially during a visit to another country.
"It seems we need to learn from those British holidaymakers who confidently reward those they believe have delivered exceptional service," he commented.
Some 14 per cent of men and women felt awkward when tipping a waiter or waitress, while 11 per cent said they were reluctant to tip during an organised tour.
What seemed to be the most uncomfortable situation, however, was tipping in a hotel, a problem which 19 per cent of respondents could relate to.
A separate HolidayExtras.com survey published last month that sunshine destinations are the most popular types of holiday for Brits this winter, beating skiing or cosy countryside retreats.
