Skiers urged to check insurance policies
People planning skiing holidays over the next few months have been urged to check the small print on their insurance policies to confirm that they are fully covered.
The Ski Club of Great Britain launched a campaign to inform winter sports enthusiasts of the "serious implications" of not being property insured.
Travellers who will be taking part in excursions such as off-piste skiing, tobogganing and touring should check their insurance details to see if they are covered for these activities.
Other concerns include altitude, with some policies only providing cover at 3,000 metres or less, and insurance for legal expenses if a person has to take court action after being injured.
Ski Club of Great Britain chief executive Caroline Stuart Taylor said: "Skiers and snowboarders often get caught out when it comes to insurance. Buying a travel insurance policy is often not enough.
"The Ski Club urges people to check that they are covered for winter sports and that they read the small print to ensure all activities they will be participating in are covered."
Winter sports travellers planning to visit Europe can choose from mainstream destinations in countries such as France and Austria, as well as lesser-known resorts in places like Bulgaria and Slovenia.
