Brazil sets out tourism targets for next decade
Brazil's national tourist board has announced the targets that the country hopes to achieve over the next ten years.
An event was held in Rio de Janeiro to launch a plan highlighting the importance of five areas - sun and beach holidays, sports, eco-tourism, culture and business.
Between 2010 and 2020, Brazil hopes to achieve a 113 per cent increase in international tourism, which would lead to a total of 11.1 million foreign visitors to the country every year.
Substantial increases are targeted for 2014, when the South American nation will host the football World Cup, and 2016, when the Olympic Games will take place in Rio De Janeiro.
The UK is included in the plan as one of the top eight international markets for Brazil.
More than 181,000 British tourists visited the country in 2008, an increase of 2.3 per cent compared to the previous year.
Chris Fuzinatto, director of the Brazilian Tourist Office in the UK, revealed that promotional road shows will be launched in London next year, along with a consumer-facing advertising campaign.
