Lonely Planet has released the results of a survey to discover the world's most popular destinations for a winter break.
The company asked its staff and authors where they would like to spend the Christmas holiday season, with Hawaii emerging as the most popular spot among respondents in the
US.
Staff in
Australia named
Vanuatu as their top destination for a winter break.
The survey also highlighted a widespread fondness for
Prague.
Describing the appeal of the Czech capital, Lonely Planet staff member Ali Lemer said: "Walking down the old cobbled laneways with a new scarf and a hot chocolate in hand is a wonderfully European way to spend the winter."
Other destinations cited by the survey respondents include Tahoe in the US, Oaxaca in
Mexico and even Antarctica.
Lonely Planet recently released its Best in Travel 2010 guide, which includes lists of the top 30 destinations for holidaymakers to visit next year and the best travel experiences on offer.
