Qatar Airways takes delivery of four new aircraft
Qatar Airways took delivery of four new aircraft in December, bringing to an end what it described as "an eventful 2009".
The Doha-based carrier received two Boeing 777-200 long-range planes and two Airbus A320s, boosting its fleet to a total of 76 aircraft.
Among the highlights of the Airbus jets is a new seat-back entertainment system in economy class.
One of the new Boeing 777s will be used to increase frequency on Qatar Airways' new flights to Melbourne, while the other will be deployed on routes to Asia.
Akbar Al Baker, the airline's chief executive officer, said: "Today's consumer is becoming more demanding and we at Qatar Airways recognise the need to remain at the forefront of the aviation industry by flying modern aircraft."
He added: "The additional Airbus A320s and A321s give Qatar Airways a firm footing in the rapid development and expansion of our regional network, while the Boeing 777s are quickly emerging as the backbone of our long-haul and ultra long-haul flying programme."
Qatar Airways also boosted its route network in 2009 with the launch of new flights to Houston, Amritsar, Goa and Melbourne.
