Poland to celebrate Chopin
A number of events will take place throughout Poland and other European countries this year to celebrate the composer Frederic Chopin.
The Chopin 2010 initiative has been arranged to mark the fact that this year represents the 200th anniversary of his birth.
Czestochowa will host the inaugural concert on January 15th, which will feature performances by groups including the Warsaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
On May 9th, the Polish National Opera in Warsaw will host a ballet celebrating the music of Chopin.
There will be events taking place in other European cities throughout the year, including an exhibition at the Haus der Musik in Vienna and a series of piano recitals at the Southbank Centre in London.
Bogdan Becla, acting director of the Polish National Tourist Office, said: "Poland is a wonderful country to visit at any time, but this year it will be extra special as the whole country honours the world-renowned Chopin.
"His talent and creativity certainly echo down the ages, and what better way to celebrate the man and his music than by joining the celebrations in his native Poland?"
