Chinese New Year to go off with a bang in Singapore

Several events are set to take place in Singapore over the coming months as the city-state celebrates the Chinese New Year.

Visitors will be able to take part in celebrations including the official opening ceremony on January 23rd, which will feature pyrotechnics, firecrackers and an international lion dance competition.

Singapore's Chinatown district will come to life over the next few weeks, with over 500 stalls being set up along the streets and nightly performances due to take place at Kreta Ayer Square.

There will be some unique sights for tourists to see, with a giant floating platform at Marina Bay set to host large displays of mythical creatures from Chinese folklore.

The spectacle will be part of the Singapore River Hongbao show, which will run from February 12th to 20th.

Chingay, one of Asia's biggest street parades, will coincide with the Hongbao event when it takes place on February 19th and 20th.

All of the festivities are being arranged to mark the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Tiger, which will see a grand countdown and fireworks display set off in Singapore on February 13th.
