Aruba 'set to be big in 2010'
The Aruba Tourism Authority has predicted that the island will be a popular choice among British travellers in 2010.
Some 10,265 people from the UK visited Aruba between January and September 2009, marking the first time that the destination has welcomed more than 10,000 British tourists in a single year.
The island has now "firmly established itself" as one of the Caribbean's top ten destinations for the UK market, according to the local tourist board.
A number of promotional initiatives are set to be introduced this year, including a £150,000 campaign that will see new adverts displayed on the London Underground.
Access to the island will also be improved, with KLM set to resume its flights to Aruba from Amsterdam on February 1st.
Joanna Walding, the Aruba Tourism Authority's UK director, said: "Despite the economic downturn, Aruba had a record year and remains one of the fastest growing destinations in the Caribbean for the UK market.
"With more flights available and two major advertising campaigns going on, we are confident that the upward trend can be maintained for 2010."
