Poland celebrates 'destination of the decade' status
The national tourist board of Poland is celebrating the fact that the country was named 'destination of the decade' by the Guardian.
In an article in the newspaper's travel section, holidaymakers are encouraged to experience the "chic shopping and nightlife" of Warsaw and visit destinations such as the seaside town of Sopot and the cultural hotspot of Krakow.
According to the Guardian, Poland's rising popularity as a short break destination was fuelled by the success of budget airlines, as well as its reputation for providing cheap beer and accommodation.
There is a lot to discover in the country, including the "rich political past, fantastic culture and beautiful countryside" described in the article.
Bogdan Becla, acting director of the Polish National Tourist Office, said: "Poland really is a wonderful choice for a holiday, whether that's a weekend city break or a longer two-week holiday.
"We have lots to offer from great shopping, beautiful beaches and wonderful countryside to vibrant cities, a rich culture and some sensational food. Poland isn't just a destination of the past decade, but it will be a destination of choice for years to come."
